Goal Set for 2 Million Actions-for-Good, Including Monetary Donations & Volunteer Hours
Hosting Free Pop-Up Party at Canopy Feat. Local Nonprofit Partners,
Family-Friendly Activities, Music, Food, Drink & More
I Live Here I Give Here (ILHIGH) is proud to announce that the local nonprofit will serve for a second consecutive year as the official Community Leader in the Central Texas region for Giving Tuesday – an annual global event taking place the Tuesday immediately following Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday is meant to serve as a time for people across the world to celebrate philanthropy and give back to their communities after the consumer-fueled shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
This year’s Giving Tuesday will take place on November 27. The goal set for Central Texas will be 2 million actions-for-good after successfully hitting over 1.6 million in year 1 last fall including $700,000+ in monetary donations alone. An action-for-good can be traditional monetary-based donations, in addition to any act of service ranging from giving a coat to hosting a food drive to adopting a pet to setting up a monthly donation or even pledges to volunteer in the coming holiday season.
Those interested in recording their actions-for-good this Giving Tuesday can do so by sharing on social media using both #ILiveHereIGiveHere and #GivingTuesday, as well as by tracking their specific actions-for-change on ILHIGH's dedicated page (amplifyatx.org/info/givingtuesday). ILHIGH is encouraging companies and other organizations to report their actions-for-good on Giving Tuesday and throughout the holiday season.
In support of Central Texas’ contribution to the global movement, ILHIGH has partnered with Big Medium to host a free and public event on Tuesday, November 27 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Canopy (916 Springdale Rd. Austin, TX 78702) to celebrate the holiday as well as encourage additional actions-for-good from local residents. The collaborative event will feature an array of local nonprofit organizations and activities for all ages, which include arts and crafts from Big Medium, in addition to mini-horses from Mini’s & Friends, pet fostering with Austin Humane Society, poinsettia sales from Down Home Ranch, pies from Meals on Wheels, a fiddle player from Texas Folk Life, games from Special Olympics Central Texas, the I Live Here I Give Here Photobooth, cocktails by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, cookies from Tiff’s Treats, and more. Local residents are encouraged to stop by and give back in any way they can, as well as participate in the activities each organization will be hosting on site. More event information will be revealed closer to the event dates, although additional party details will also be revealed on the official Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/323180058493484/.
“This year, my team and I are excited to show the world how generous Austin is in partnership with the Giving Tuesday global campaign,” said Interim Executive Director Lindsay Muse. “We couldn’t have been more proud of Central Texans after they not only reached but exceeded last year’s goal of 1 million actions-for-good, but we want to push ourselves and those around us in our communities to give back more than ever before this holiday season, starting with Giving Tuesday on November 27. When social services are increasing in demand, this community needs neighbors to show up, inspire and support each other.”
#GivingTuesday is I Live Here I Give Here’s program to promote generosity, doing good and monthly giving in Austin. This year continues to be a hallmark year for the local organization as it was able to raise more money than ever before through its largest annual fundraising events – Amplify Austin Day in February and The BIG Give this September. Through Giving Tuesday, ILHIGH is aiming to bring even more new and emerging donors in Austin and the surrounding areas to invest in their own local communities.
AmplifyATX.org will continue to act as a nonprofit search engine for Central Texas residents and homesick Texans alike wanting to give back during the holiday season, especially during Giving Tuesday. Those interested in giving back can visit amplifyatx.ilivehereigivehere.org/nonprofits to search for nonprofit organizations by causes, name, ZIP code or keyword.
ILHIGH would like to highlight several Central Texas nonprofit organizations participating in Giving Tuesday, including Central Texas Food Bank, Caritas, KLRU, Austin Parks Foundation, Hill Country Conservancy, Camp Kesem, Mothers Milk Bank, We Are Blood, Austin Pets Alive, Emancipet, SAFE Alliance, Texas Folk Life, Andy Roddick Foundation, Generation Citizen, and Big Medium.
