Volunteer Healthcare Clinic
The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic provides free healthcare to people in our community who are low-income and uninsured. With the help of over 400 volunteers and many community collaborations, the Clinic provides walk-in acute care services 2-nights a week and chronic disease management services 1-night a week. www.volclinic.org .
Waterloo Counseling Center
Waterloo Counseling Center provides affordable mental health counseling services and training with an expertise in gender and sexual diversity. Waterloo offers several options for therapy including individual, couples, group and family counseling. The Wright House Wellness Center offers care and compassion to Central Texans living with or at risk of HIV and other chronic illnesses and provides resources for support, education and empowerment. We offer Disease Management and Disease Prevention programs to people living in Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays or Williamson Counties. Capital Area Mental Health Center Our mission is to provide affordable, accessible low-cost psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families in Central Texas and to provide training for pre- and post-graduate students from mental health disciplines. Over 600 clients are served annually. The purpose of this program is to check for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a serious genetic heart condition that affects roughly one in 500 people. | In 2006, 47,803 children in Austin were considered overweight or obese. Texas ranks highest in the country for the number of uninsured children. Statewide, more than 40 percent of fourth graders, 39 percent of eighth graders, and 36 percent of eleventh graders are either overweight or at risk of being overweight. In Travis County, one-third of children are either overweight or obese. Texas ranks 50th among our states in providing alcohol and drug treatment services. Child obesity is the #1 health issue in Texas. Austin has been listed by Forbes magazine as the heaviest drinking city in America. |
